The BadAss Self-Closing Hinge uses the same bearing technology found in all of SHUT IT's existing products. Because of this, the hinge has the same load capacity as their ORIGINAL BadAss hinge – 2,000 lbs and has been tested to self close gate up to 300 lbs. Additionally, like all of SHUT IT's other hinges, its self-closing hinge is adjustable during and after installation, so that you can always have a perfectly flush installation.

“For the BadAss Self-Closing Hinge, we wanted to use a closing mechanism, that was not only durable, but easily adjustable,” states Bengtson. “We decided a torsion style closer offered the best durability and ease of adjustment.” The company worked with an independent manufacturer of torsion springs to develop a custom spring that is capable of closing both heavy and light gates while not creating excess torque, which causes slamming in lighter gate installations. Additionally, SHUT IT has included 5 tension settings on the hinge, so that each installation can close with the proper speed.
